Can anyone reccomend a decent venue for clay pigeon shooting in Yorkshire? I have done it once before at Monckton a few years back but looking for somewhere new this time. After somewhere big enough for 15-20 people, who will all have been atleast once before to different venues so won't be complete noobs.

I've only ever been clay pigeon shooting once, which was this time last year, and I went here http://www.warren-gill.co.uk/ near Masham. I thought it was good, but then I'm not a pro.

Its not in Yorkshire but my favourite place is Kelbrook Shooting Lodge (google it) in Kelbrook near Colne. Sounds horrible but it really isn't. Old Elizabethan shooting lodge with a great variety of traps in terrific woodland setting. I've bought half a dozen guns from the guy who runs it (Mike Meggison, ex UK olympic shooter). Top, top place.

The clay shooting club at the Coniston Hotel (Coniston between Skipton and Settle, behind Land Rover Experience venue) is good too but quite expensive.

I recall there being one in Otley too but have never been.

Kelbrook is your daddy though if the location suits, their website shows more.

Not been to Rufforth myself but know plenty who have/do. Some guys I shoot with at Rivaulx get a few practice mornings in there before first day of season.

Word is it is very good but very expensive. If you don't mind dropping c.£50-75 per head for a decent go then you'll have a grand time. Worth asking anywhere for discount for a bunch of you, should make cartridges a lot cheaper if you can buy then by the 500/1000 rather than by the box of 25.

I have mixed views on Rufforth - if you go there just for shooting then I'm sure it's pretty good, and the facilities look great - but I went as part of a stag do last summer and was somewhat shocked. Handing loaded, unbroken guns to complete novices with the safety off is not a good idea in my book. May just have been that the instructor couldn't be bothered and wanted to get rid of us as quickly as possible, but no excuse.

Whereabouts in Yorkshire are you - if you're near Leeds there is shooting up on the (Otley) Chevin (next to the Royalty) on a Sunday morning (and think it is Tuesday nights during the summer). Quite informal, good laugh, and good instructors.

I went there lots in my younger years, it's a good site with lots of interesting variation.

A pretty good shop there too from what I remember.

Probably a bit late but Topcliffe (easy access from A1 and A19) which is near Thirsk has a decent set up which started late last year.

Give John a ring at Alquimista. He's represented GB at the Olympics, coached GB, and is a lovely chap. Great day out and you'll improve your shooting skills no end.
