My niggles....

Well after a few weeks of ownership I have decided to think about a few things which need doing....

1. Sloooooooowwwww windows, is this a connection issue, what and where needs cleaning?
2. New steering wheel. Mine has wear at the top so I need a grey leather wheel, bell hill don't have any, where else might I be able to find a genuine one which isn't £1000.
3. Exhaust rattle at certain rpm. I know this is common, can it be by re set or will it just come again? I'm not overly bothered about this for now at least.
4. 12k service coming up before too long has anyone used castle sports cars in stansted?

Try this guy (Mark) www.trim-tech.co.uk he may be able to work wonders with your steering wheel, he had done countless bits of interior on my cars including steering wheels. Guessing your Essex if your thinking of using Castle.

He is mobile but does work from home - near Freeport, Braintree if its easy for you to travel to him

Bud have a gander at your tail pipes this may be the rattle,they tend to crack where the pipe joins back box(thats if its the standered back box).mine did it on tickover and sounded crap...when i stood by the car i would put my foot on the offending pipe,this would stop the rattle.When fubars exhaust had this rattle he got a mechanic to put his foot on the tail pipe

Okay mate shall look at that but don't think it's a problem on idle. I have sports pipes on mine so don't know if this changes anything?
I'm going to taking one thing at a time with mine, don't want to get sucked into crazy spending if its not needed, but I am willing to learn and get my hands dirty which is half the fun anyway.

I've recently had my rear support rubber replaced, they tend to stretch with time and the exhaust started to hit the under trays.
As for the windows try a little silicon spray on the edges, run windows up and down applying the spray as you go, the rubbers dry out and the windows drag.
Did mine and did the trick both are cheap resolves, hope it works for you

Put a large zip tie around the exhaust hanger rubbers,this stop a lot of play

1) Check and clean all earthing points, put some window-seal-suitable grease stuff (the name escapes me) over the rubber seals?
2) Best bet is to get it re-trimmed
3) Check mounts and makes sure its not hitting the chassis/ badly hung.
4) Nope, but in the south I'd use APM and in the North I'd use Str8six or APM.

Cant tell you how many times Ive had my exhaust realigned lol, and noticed last week they have gone wonky again!

This is what I do since I snapped both rubbers just prior to a run out. You can also use large jubilee clips if you need to move the end pipes up and down. Sports exhausts are prone to moving around as FUBAR notes but can easily be put right. If there banging further under the car it's time for a little heat and lever.

Castle sports cars are now Hilton and Moss i have taken 5 cars to them this year they are very very good, Snibs the TVR guru knows everything, you cant go wrong there!

+1 for Castle Cars (now Hilton and Moss). They did my 12k last year plus a relatively long list of little niggles. All fixed and they kept me updated with any issues as they went along. Will be using them again this year.

Thanks all, My pipes are a bit wonky as you look at them so it seems pretty obvious this is the same problem, I will have to get underneath and rig something up, Jubilee clips or otherwise.

I will give Castle a call, its been 10k since the tappets were done so its almost time. I like the fact that they 'check' the tappets rather than just charge you for re alignment, as well.

The connectors that you want to clean are inside the doors. Just take off the door panels and fish around.

The thing that made the most difference with my windows was replacing the fur lined rubber that the window slides in. The fur tends to wear off and leave the glass sliding directly against the rubber. Lubrication is only ever a temporary fix.

I got the new rubber Clever Trevor although Frosts et al stock it too. It is just a case of pulling the old bit out of the aluminium channel it sits in and pressing in the new rubber in - a dead easy job and made a massive improvement to the windows.

A couple of hefty stainless jubilee clips round your exhaust rubbers make it easy to adjust.

I presume this is not the same as Castle Race Engines?
