The USD is widely accepted in certain holiday zones. However, the $ symbol is used to represent both Mexican Peso and the USD so clarify which currency it actually is. For what's its worth the USD isn't accepted outside the tourist areas.

I was aware that the $ is the same for both currency. some of the prices was in USD, I will be taking peso but it does get confusing, you wouldn't take euros to austalia and use them there would you.

Dollars are just as widely accepted as pesos.

It makes no difference to be honest. the maths conversion is very simple with both.
