illegal exhaust?

Hi everyone, just wondering if any of the resident BIB on here could clarify the law regarding loud exhausts?
I have an employee who has a vectra fitted with a rather loud exhaust, its perfectly road legal and he has a valid MOT recently done but he has received complaints from local residents about the noise.

Is there a specific Db limit for an exhaust?
What can a police officer do in relation to this?(impound car, crush car etc)

No. But Yeah but No. There is a limit on new cars exhausts, but do the police have the technical equipment and the facilities to check to the same standard? I think not.

I thought the rules were mainly common sense. I think on the VOSA site there is laws about sound levels on all cars for MOT. I have known cars that go for MOT to come back to my mates garage with fails due to excessive noise.
