Training....where to start, what to do
Discussion
Between September and somewhere around the middle of December, I'd been putting base miles in, on average 2hr+ rides 1-2 times a week and then bought a trainer and did a couple of sessions a week on it. It was never massive mileage, and whilst I was doing zone1/2 stuff on the road, I was doing 45-50 min zone 3 efforts on the turbo. Certainly not very inspiring.
I've been a real lazy b
d this last month, pigged out on Christmas food, and not done much cycling at all. Any cycling I have done has been on the mountain bike and that hasnt been often enough.
I'm planning a 60miler at the start of March, and my goal is a 100 mile sportive sometime in May/June. In fact, I want to be able to do this regularly and while its not the best of weather (hate the dark) at the moment, soon enough I should be doing the 10 miles to work to supplement.
Has anyone got any kind of structured plan to help me with what I should be doing/going? I'm about a stone in weight from where I want to be, and I've put around 4lbs on over the last month (I told you i'd been lazy!). It should hopefully come off pretty easily as it did before.
Last year was all about adapting to riding, getting some miles in my arse and also in the legs. This year I want to push on to be a competent cyclist at distance and in the hills. I wont be doing any racing but its not to say I wont want to give that a go come 2013. Long terms plans etc etc.

If you log on to SHutt VR site, they have a good little freebie they gave away last winter that does a good pre and early season schedule for training for longer rides.
If all else fails on the web site, drop them an email and you will find they are brilliantly helpful. There is a tie up with a couple of top trainers etc so try it!
Good luck
ps - And also have a look at Cyclechat......
