BP Ultimate wont fit in my car !

Stopped at local BP garage last saturday to get some premium fuel in the 500... amazed but the nozzle was a fair bit too wide to put into the filler apeture! Only way would have been to hold it open with my finger & drip the fuel in from outside. Asked the BP woman if anyone else has reported this .. 'nah mate'.. anyone here suffered this problem?

Garage is near Benson, South Oxon.

Not noticed that - however, I tried three tankfulls of the BP stuff end-to-end and think we're much, much happier with Optimax. Not a scientifically based comment or anything............

Now i once discovered that the different nozzles are to stop people accidentaly putting the wrong fuel in, i.e. unleaded the car manufactures did this as well about the time of leaded being fased out

Isn't the leaded nozzle usually wider? and cars which need unleaded have a smaller aperture/orifice. So the garage might have been using a leaded nozzle. If it wouldn't fit in the TVR's orifice then it probably woulnd't fit in many other cars'.

I know that every BP garage I've been to has had a bigger nozzle for Ultimate than Shell do for Optimax. This also has the extra side-effect of blocking the airflow out of the tank (if you can get the nozzle in - which hasn't been a problem for me) which guarantees you ten minutes of half triger, finger-aching irritation.

On that basis alone, I use Optimax whenever I can.

Never had any more problems getting an Ultimate noozle in than I have a Optimax nozzle.
Also havent noticed any big differences between the 2 except some slight slow moving lumpiness with optimax.

Fitted fine in my skyline. Snag is I spent a good 10 minutes in the shop reading what Ultimate actually is. Goes on about cleaning engine, better economy, etc but there is no octane rating so it could just have additives but be 95RON!?

Strange old world. Filled up the Chim yesterday for the first time with the BP wonder-stuff as usually run on Optimax.
Nozzle went in easily and for the first time ever, filled up without cutting out umpteen times . Same angle of dangle as recommended on this site.
Not much difference in performance other than the car "kangaroos" a bit more on the BP juice than on Optimax..

I believe its 97 RON the same as most super unleadeds.
Still lower than Optimax. They should have perhaps produced a 99RON, they'd have got all of us interested then!

V8 Archie... an interesting observation that on blocking the airflow pipe, might explain why when I fill up at BP I end up pouring petrol over the car or me. Never really thought about it before, but I don't get the same problem at Shell Hmmmmmmmm

Did you ever get a re-occurrence of the bloody awfull pinking that you had from the BP Ultimate that you chucked in before Surrey Run 5? That was horrendous!

Unleaded 95 ron, Optomax 97 ron, Ultimate 98 ron, optimax is the best though as my car is deffinately quicker on it and just runs better, Bit lumpy at slow speeds though

happily no.. dont use it that much though. Wonder if I managed to put diesel in t??!? Expect car would have konked out all together right ?

No! It's versa-vice! Shell Optimax is 98Ron and BP Ultimate is 97Ron.

In euro the high octane fuels are all 98Ron. It's only in the UK where high is 97 and there's a extra special 98.
