Well after 98,124miles without a re-build, its finally time to give the old girl some surgery by APM.

Last 12k service revealed 2 shattered shims on the passenger bank, (not all pieces recovered) mushroomed valve stems, some nasty looking cam followers and flattened cam lobes. Driver side bank wasn't even opened up to find out if there were more issues as there's enough on the one side to justify a "refresh".

After having a couple of strange oil pressure "outages", which might be shim bits related, its going to be a full strip down to the pumps and rebuild. Luckily I dont have the bank reserve for a 4.7 upgrade as I doubt my driving talent could be anywhere near good enough biggrin Sorely tempting though.

Other stuff to do whilst the engine is out, normal heat shielding renewal, fuel hoses, coolant pipes/hoses, clean up and find a little leak on the PAS/rack and other things as we go Im sure!

So credit where's it due to BCA and his dad for one of the few 100k AJP's - with many a hill climb, sprint and track day thrown in, hopefully she'll be back soon with a new heart (and other stuff) for another 100k.

Its good to read and know that 100k can be achieved on an AJP without major surgery, hope your rebuild goes well.

Well done that man, for sticking with the AJP and not going down the LS road.

Seconded. This thread is testament to the magic of the AJP. For a company of TVR's size and stature to design and produce their own engine from scratch, with a tiny development budget and have it produce such incredible power with such longevity is amazing.

There'll never be another company, or engine, like it.

hmmm, shouldn't be quite £100k, but by the time you've done everything it might not be far off wink

LS? Not on my watch Sir. shoot
I love the uniqueness of the sound, the simplicity of it means even I'm willing to get my hands dirty and if I really want a US V8, I can buy a Camaro or Mustang.

Graham that is looking lovely!!
The exhaust looks great, remind me what you've done to that???
Your chassis looks low to the ground.

Cheers Gary, the exhausts have been plasma-sprayed ceramic coated to protect them and reduce under bonnet temps.

As for the chassis, I'm sure another 5 mm drop would be ok ? smile

As my engine is hopefully being swapped back etc in early Feb then I might look into that plasma business..... What did it cost?

Off the top of my head, i think around £700, but a few other bits have been done as well.

Give our mutual friend a call for an exact cost

I'm looking at new manifolds too and reducing bay temps would be great....is this the Zircotec coating?

Saw your car at APM djsteve, it seems it has just worn out through lots of hard use. The best reason for a rebuild smile

Oh yeah she was a daily drive for BCA's dad as well as their track day, hill climb and sprint car...she's had a very well used life upto now! And when she's back in shape, she'll be back on track.

Was yours the Cerb with an oil cooler problem at APM? Looked LOVELY! cloud9

Ummm - just waiting on the parts to come back from being reground, fixed, skimmed, drilled etc.... Then engine goes back together later this month, then we decide on gaskets, then put it in the car! So hopefully running in Feb! Fingers crossed. Russ is a very helpful chap and wants to make sure I am a happy customer so hopefully we'll be at those timescales.
