I am struggling to work out what is wrong with my boot opening mechanism. It has been playing up for a while so I thought I would take a look and maybe change the solenoid. When it hasn't worked before, I could get it working briefly by manually working the solenoid for a few seconds. This never lasts and it stops working again.
I went to remove it (bl**dy awkward), when I started to remove the lock mechanism attached to the solenoid, the solenoid started working constantly. I refitted the lock mechanism and all worked fine. I went back after walking the dog, it worked once then nothing...Ahhh!

What do I need to change, switch, solenoid or lock and its mechanism?

When mine did this it was actually the button behind the badge, removed it, sprayed liberally with contact cleaner and has been ok ever since,(over a year now.)

I should have said that I have already had the badge off. There is a washer in place instead of a 2p piece. I sprayed with contact cleaner but it made no difference.

If you access behind the switch, you should find an inline plug from the switch, unplug and short out across the socket, this will fire the solenoid, if it works ok from there then it will be the switch at fault. I removed the switch to clean it as it was difficult to get cleaner into it insitu as it has a rubber cover on it.
