Yep, got it on the Italian Job soundtrack which credits all the music to Quincy Jones.
Matt Monro gets a "vocals" credit, with lyrics by Don Black who also wrote the lyrics to Getta Bloomin Move On!

I have it on my iPod.. It was wafting away along with some John Barry stuff as me and my brothers soundtrack of choice when we did the Ferrari/Pagani/Maserati factory visit/pilgrimage a few years back.. Shame our ride was a diesel Astra estate hire car but you can't have everything

What a great singer "Matt" (Terence Parsons) was.................(used to be a London bus driver)....

Most famous of course for singing the theme tune to "Born Free"....

Saw him live on stage in Bredbury, Stockport in 1973....still got his autograph somewhere.......

Listen to it quite a lot when driving, but it seems virtually impossible to find the version that's on the film. The one that's available is rather different.

I just dug out the soundtrack album and yes, you're right, the version on there is not the one from the film. In fact, it's not a patch on it!
(I bought the Jungle Book soundtrack the same day and some of the tracks on that are different too, and not for the better.)

One of my favourite tracks. Extraordinary to think the music was writen by the guy that produced Thriller, that's quite a range. BTW, the only Michael Jackson track I own is 'Ben'.

Quincy Jones really is incredible. Looking at what he's achieved as a songwriter, musician, producer and engineer is incredible, especially considering what he rose from - nothing.

Brilliant song. I have seen that opening sequence soooo many times....

we even made a little recreation... admittedly with a land rover and the flat fields of cheshire but it was all we had!

It is such a shame. I've looked all over for the film version and can't find it for the life of me.

In 1977, Matt was appearing at the Windmill Theatre in Gt Yarmouth for the summer season on the top of the bill.

I had a part time job there as a "Lime Operator", basically, working one of the giant Followspots to the 2 evening performances.

He was great singer and what you would call "a Gentleman". I was just a 16 year old kid but he always had a word for us and the usherettes unlike some of the people lower on the bill who thought they were stars but weren't.
