Is it my imagination or is this forum getting a bit stale and boring.

It used to be a lively and invigoration discussion forum for all things Ultima related.

Has it all been done? Have we tried everything? Have we all the answers?

Is it the economy that is dragging us down!

Maybe we need to push the boundaries a little more or try different things to enliven the forum.

I have mentioned this before but I am planning to fit an iPad that will run an OBDII reader with as much info as I can get from the LS7. I have an SPA dash but this is an extra and I hope to use the camera and get a 3G sat nav.
Anybody know what wiring I need and how to link it to the Ultima.

I will try to sort out some photo's of my rebuild to spark discussion/criticism over the weekend.

Off to Autosport Show tomorrow for a few more ideas.

RANT ON!

To be Brutally honest, I think the fact that the way that the Financial institutions have totally screwed the economy and then grossly profiteered on every ones pain at every turn, with no interest or regard to what happens to the rest of the population - then the Govt apparently totally powerless (or have vested indiviual interests) to do anything about it - means that many of us have had to focus on surviving, or 'damage limitation', thus the much reduced activity on here!

It is a great shame, and shows many indiviuals that continue to get fat bonuses and institutions promoting such, depite the watered-down, very weak disengenuous rhetoric of the posturing politicians..in their true colours!

Having 3 of us locally with Ultimas(2 building, 1 complete), we have plenty of emails flying between us trying to sort out build / repairs / mods on our cars. Suppose I personally don't post up most of my queries, as I expect most of you have seen them plenty of times before, so resort to emails between mates / factory / specialists, or as per last night popped round to see 1st mate trying to fit his new air intake & then on 2nd mate for advice on electrics for DASH2 and engine. Last week the 3 of us were in my garage trying to see if DASH2 could be seen through a 320mm steering wheel. It couldn't, so good excuse to buy a new Momo Nero at 350mm wink

Makes mental note to post more ! smile

Cheers Dave

I know this is a difficult time for many. Less money around and costs still rising. The banks being a**holes and not lending (god knows how they are making money at the moment) but still overpaying themselves. All the more reason for posting ideas/thoughts/purchases so that others may benefit.

These are not cheap cars. It never was easy to build one on a budget and even less so now. It is important that we pass on any cost savings we find
even if we didn't do something for the saving.

One thing I can tell you is that it is cheaper to build from new than rebuild!!!!!!!!!!! All these nice shiny new parts make old bits look........well, old. So you replace. Bu**er!

Joystick or better still a side stick. Perhaps we could combine a joystick with the gear lever.

Not a grandad yet but I remember when the Allegro was new. Cornering in one as a passenger and thinking it would roll over at any moment. It did a few days later (not with me in, thankfully).

Many after market wheel companies think square is a good idea. It never was and never will be (a great sweeping statement).

How about steering with your feet like an old home made push go-kart!

Alternatively, handlebars with throttle, clutch and brake would be another way. Change gear with a foot pedal.

I'm Lurking and watching as since travelling to 'Caring with Cars' in a mate's Maclaren F1 GTR and seeing some Ultimas there I have an interest in building one.

I have only seen a couple on the road, the first was about 10+ years ago, it was a Spyder driven up the A1 one lunchtime in a guy wearing a suit and Crash Helmet!

Unfortunately my earnings have gone down around 45% over the past year as I have had to go back to paid employment so Mortgage and School fees have to come first, but hopefully this time next year I can start looking into it seriously.

I have outline Senior Management approval, although she is not sure whether me driving an Ultima will be more or less stressful for her than my Private Flying.....

Of course the perennial question at this stage is: GTR or Can Am?

Spares are currently worthless in the GA world Albert... a turbo Lycoming or Conti and some big gears might be your answer...biggrin

Depends on whether the spares have the little brown tag on them or not to say they are airworthy!

My current mount has a 4.5 litre Flat 4 pushing out a staggering 180 horsepower at 2,750 rpm!
(And consumes 9 gallons/38 litres an hour! at a constant 110 mph)

Have a couple myself.... one with log and low hours... but relatively things in that market have been hit very hard... it can sit under the bench for a better day.
G luck with your Ultima .
