[2000 GTV]

Saw these can be had for under £9k with twenty odd thou on the clock and was wondering if anyone had any experience of these. What's the torque steer like and is there anything to look out for in the face of the good reviews at the time?

Not sure why you think it's not practical? Big boot, ok (ish) access to the rear. I used to get 27mpg all day long.

That's the R26.R. The R26 has the wing back Recaros and normal rear bench.

Wrong car mate.

Its surprising how many people seem to confuse the two. Even when I had my .R I had it a few times people saying 'yeah ive had one of those' only to find out they had a standard R26.

As for the op's question. Good value now, although I wouldnt say there very cheap to run. With fuel and tyre wear. Very fast cross country, probably the best 'hotter' hatch for that sort of money.

I drove mine pretty hard and did quite a few track days and used to do a set of front PS2s in 8-10k miles.

My mum ran one for three years as a daily drive. It was awesome she loved it, I loved it and my dad loved it. Suprisingly comfortable, we did several long distance high speed trips with no problems. Devastating cross country speed, pretty much nothing would catch it, not that we found anyway. It gave an average over our ownership (my mum never reset the trip) of 27 and a bit mpg which given the way it was driven is pretty good.

The only downside I would say is you will get folk wanting to race quite often and it's suprisingly wide.

If you want one get it I seriously doubt you'd ever regret the decision. My dad still says that in his 52yr driving career it was by far and away the best car he's ever driven.
