Myself and the OH are heading down to London tomorrow, hoping to pick up a 5* bargain in the centre of town before heading to Richmond to meet BiL on Saturday morning.

Aside from the usual Trafalgar/Whitehall/Covent Garden/Regents St/Harrods trek what else could we do?

And yes, I realise the world is our oyster in London but sometimes with such a choice it's all too easy to resort what's 'safe'.

South Bank. Over the Thames at Westminster and just wander along till you reach Tower Bridge. Loads of lovely cafes, bars, pubs. Views are some of the best in London, a glass of ale or wine in the Festival Hall will make you feel all cultured an posh - then River Bus back to Westminster. Tends to be a little less busy than other parts of the Capital and as you're with the OH, quite romantic too.

(Awaits usual references to OXO Tower......)

Whenever I have had friends visiting from overseas and taking them around the "sights" in London, I always take them to the Ice Bar. It is close to the centre, something a bit different, and you get the chance to have a few vodka based cocktails too!

Take a turn off oxford street onto wardour street, have a wander through soho - interesting bars/pubs and the added bonus of being able to pick up "something for the weekend"

Funny - I wondered around there today. Had a meeting in the area, arrived early and just chilled out.

Also went in to Hamleys - it's not the toy shop I remember!
