headlamp motors
Discussion
Can someone tell me where i can get a reconditioned headlamp motor from, or if theres a company that will fix mine for me. Ive had problems with it for weeks and have finally got round to taking it out for a closer look but cant see any obvious problems. I know rimmers do them but they have different electrical connections to the one on my car so wouldnt fit straight on
thanks Colin

How handy are you with mechanical bits ?
The motors are from a TR7, but really they are just ordinary windscreen wiper motors with a modified
top casting, and it's not all that much modified either.
You can swop the motor parts with pretty much any other Lucas wiper motor of the same era, the innards are all pretty much the same.
If it's the old TVR problem of the motors not stopping, then it's probably the diodes, which can be changed easily, and the driver relays are often at fault, due to dodgy connections....
If you look carefully at the wiring, again, it's pretty obvious - 2 motor, 3 for 'stop/go' signal to the relays - 1 at the top of travel, one at the bottom, and one common (like a changeover switch).
I rebuilt one of mine from an old wiper and original bits, and it still works just fine after 7 years.....

Hey Zig, remember our other thread on this ? You just have to go through the whole system and make sure [many lines deleted here for sanity] .... colinanddonna said:
motor is sorted i called Robsport at 4.30 yesterday and they quoted me about £50 for a reconditioned and gaurenteed motor. It arrived this morning so a big thumbs up for the service and alot cheaper than Rimmer Bros. thanks for the replies
Colin
Well don't bin the old one, plenty of people (like me Colin
) will happily stockpile them for bits! You would be more than welcome to it but part of the deal was for me to send it back to robsport in exchange for a £25 surcharge, but i do know of someone who has broken a few TR7s and has told me he has a few headlamp motors in his shed so if anyone else needs one i could get in touch with him for you.
All the best Colin
