PS3 Gaming Lag (NOT online)

I picked up a new PS3 a few weeks ago. It's been absolutely fine up until the other day when I picked up a new TV.

Now, any games that are played there is a delay between pressing a button and the system reacting. This isn't online lag - this is locally played games. So, for example, with Driver, you'll press the button to accelerate, but it'll take a second to react. If slipstream behind a car with the intention of diving to the side, you end up moving the joystick when it should move, but you end up piling into the back of them.

Also, with battlefield, you'll start to walk forward and then turn to a side...and it takes ages. Then you hold the joystick to the side to rotate and when you let go, it keeps rotating for an extra second.

The only thing that is different is the new TV. The old TV was plugged in using the component (non HD) cable, whereas now there is an HDMI cable.

Any ideas anyone??

My first thought would be that there is some video lag set somewhere - but I would have thought that this would automatically set itself properly when you reset the PS3 to default settings after plugging in the new cable.

Like in Guitar Hero, where timing was crucial - and it was necessary to set the game to match the TV in terms of 'lag'.

Or, the new TV could be particularly slow (so no settings at fault, merely that the TV isn't good enough for gaming). What is the response rate on it?

What I would also like to add is that when flicking through the PS3 menu (i.e. before you're in a game), the response is absolutely perfect and works exactly as it should.

I have been through all the menus to see if there is anything obvious there, and there isn't. As I also said, it was fine on standard definition RCA connection.

You must forgive me, I don't know enough about TVs as I perhaps should do. It is a Samsung 46" D6530 LED TV Spec Sheet.

Any ideas?

Have you switched on what the spec sheet calls "Game Mode"?

It'll likely switch off all the fancy processing stuff in the TV to get rid of the lag.

Sounds very strange. Have you tried resetting the PS3 display settings? (While the PS3 is off, hold down the power button. It'll beep once as soon as you press it, but keep holding it until it beeps again.)

When it turns on, it'll say something like "A HDMI device has been detected - would you like to use it", and obviously just press yes.

Tried the game mode, and it was a little bit better, but not perfect.

How fking annoying.

Might take the TV back tbh if it's that

It certainly does now work fine in game mode - and the tv remembers the settings for each separate input, so that's fine.

Also in game mode and 3D works well too...which is pretty cool I might add!!!
