As a stipulation on my insurance, the vehicle needs to have tracker fitted.
Yes I know my DB9 has one fitted as standard, but you need to carry a rather large fob around with you. It just seems a little hassle, that i may forget the fob. Am I better having a different system fitted, that can be activated only if the car is stolen.
Also what is the subscription cost on the AM system.

Keith
I've just collected my Vantage and the tracker subscription was around £340 per year from memory. But, rather than carry a tag around they have 'paired' the tracker to my mobile phone so as long as the phone is with me then we're good to go. I do need to add my wife's mobile too but we'll leave that challenge for the weekend.

Mine, from memory, had a horizon tracker fitted (05 DB9). Didn't need to carry anything extra. If the car was moved, tilted or started, without the keys in the ignition it sent an alert to tracker who phoned me immediately to check all was ok. Suscription was £100 pa or £400 for the enrite time I owned the car.
Had two alerts from them, both times when the lorry collected for service and the car was on the back of it and the lorry pulled off without the keys in the ignition. So I guess it worked ok.

I've been told by a dealer that when no fob or mobile is associated to the AM Tracker it will act like a tokenless Tracker system and can be activated if the car is stolen.Yes I know my DB9 has one fitted as standard, but you need to carry a rather large fob around with you. If you dont want to carry a token, it might be worth checking whether this is true and whether that would be acceptable to your insurance company?
From memory I think the subscription is around £275 a year?
My last subscription was £250 for the Eurowatch. Some Insurers require it, others don't. More importantly, do YOU require it.
JohnG1 will be along shortly to confirm there are ways round the Tracker (GPS signal), but on the whole I'm happy to have it. The facility to cut the fuel to the engine under certain conditions does appeal to me.
Best not get the Tracker System confused with the Alarm System. Older cars would have the standard alarm, whereas newer models include the high spec one - the only difference (from memory) is the internal movement sensor and the tilt sensor on the high spec one. Both have pretty effective PATS working in the background

I've just in the past month set up the Eurowatch tracker (V8V, the normal AM fitment, not aftermarket) which is paired via bluetooth to my mobile phone rather than to a tag; it's costing £240/year subscription.
On a couple of occasions when the phone hasn't paired properly, Eurowatch were on the phone before I'd got 250 yards away from my house asking if everything was OK. Putting aside the annoyance factor of the phone not pairing properly, it's quite reassuring to know that the system works, and quickly.

There are only certain phones which can be paired to the Tracker.

Trackers are a complete waste of money.
Why?
A GPS jammer is less than £100
A cheap GSM jammer is yours on ebay for £30.
You need them up and running for the time taken to get the car into a Faraday cage. A shipping container will do.
Trackers deter no-one. The real change in the number of cars stolen was that the insurance industry whacked up premiums and car companies realised that people would not buy cars that were getting loaded with premium hikes based on crap security.
To be clear - I have a tracker since it came with the car and was mandatory according to the insurer. Once the insurer stops caring then I will not renew the subscription.
I agree with JohnG1 insofar as I see no point in having a tracker once the insurance company don't make it a mandatory condition of insurance cover.
However, I don't think all car theives are sophisticated enough to procure a jammer and set up a Farraday cage. A friend of mine had his car stolen from his drive with the keys following a break-in - the car was located shortly after via the tracker. Apparently the theives park the vehicle up for a few days to see if there's a tracker - if the car isn't recovered then they presumably shift it on in whatever way such people do these things.
Of course, once you've had your car stolen, you might not be keen on getting it back if it's been mistreated.

My traker fob has just died its annual(seems like) battery death hence a text from eurowatch every time i start the engine, to which i have to reply with my pin. Buggered if im paying circa £90 for a new tag if its only going to last or 12 months or so, purchased a cheap orange payg phone , £20 phone £10 compulsary top up, works a treat roughly same size as tag and is .....rechargable (unlike the tag). This is preferable to me as im used to picking up the tag at the same time as the keys just leave the bluetooth permantly on. Incidently the range of the phone isnt large enough for it to activate if its in my drawer at home and sombody tries to take the car(a possible issue from leaving the bluetooth on permantly). Also avoids the issue of pairing multiple phones for tracker purposes
