Hi Im looking for some light weight wheels for the GT3, and am tempted by the well reviewed OZ Ultraleggera's:
19"x8.5j F 9.6kg
19"x12.0j R 11.5kg

But does any one know what the weight is of the stock GT3 wheels (19")???

Thanks

10kg reduction in Unsprung mass (9.6kg) to be precise, will that make much difference?

There is a calculation for Unsprung mass and it something like either x2 or x4, can't remember which.

Basically if your reducing your unsprung mass by 10kg, then its the same as taking 20kg (x2) or 40kg (x4) out the car.

If its x4 you will notice it, if its x2 then not so much.

But saying this I reduced the unsprung mass considerably on my Mustang some years ago, went from 20" chrome wheels down to 18" lightweight alloys, 60-100mph dropped from 4.8s down to 4s which was quite substancial, but there was one other advantage, because I'd reduced the diameter of my wheel/tyre combo the gear ratio's as such shortened as well which obviously positively effects acceleration.

944racing.de appears to show 996 GT3.2 wheels are heavier than the BBS Sport Design of the GT3.1. I know I've had a few pints at lunchtime but I'm sure my eyes are not deceiving me..

The Mk1 wheels are actually reasonably light. The Mk2 rears are an inch wider and the fronts half an inch wider, I'd be surprised if the Mk2s weren't heavier.

More Porsche, less "Ricer" than Rays.

I bought some Champion Motorsport RS98's from the states. Quite a bit lighter than standard wheels.

So the "lightweight wheels" from the 7.1 GT3 brochure are actually the heaviest across the whole 997 range? That's a bit dissapointing to read.

Ahhh yes, but lots comment how wonderful the 993 RS Speedline split rims are, try picking one up after a 964 RS Magnesium wheel and be prepared to visit your local hernia clinic.

Mental note not to pick up those ones then, Slippy - I've already had myself put back inside my myself twice in 12 months!

(They do look fantastic, though.)
