Classic cars would probably fit the title - American muscle, some classic British sports cars etc.

Maybe some future classics? MK1 Focus RS maybe? I am sure the E34 M5 will be creeping up in price followed by the E39 sooner or later.

The E39 M5 is unlikely to appreciate because there are so damn many of them, although a good one will command a bigger premium over all the shagged ones.

993 Porsches are the biggie. TVR Griffith, yes, and perhaps Cerbera, I reckon.

Anything that becomes rare enough that there's more demand than supply!

If there are only 100 4WD Mondeos left, but only 10 people want one, they're hardly going to appreciate. This I know

But if there are 20,000 E39 M5s, and everyone starts listening to us bunch shouting loudly about how it's one of the most complete all-round cars ever built, and a quarter of a million people decide they want one, then it's going to go through the roof.

But yes, generally, the rarer a particular (nice, unmolested good-condition) performance car becomes, the more it's gonna be worth.
