Back in December, I picked up this 1918 Dodge Brother Tourer from a farm. It had been sitting absolutely untouched for 55 years in a barn, totally complete (a few parts removed and stored with the car), and the seller who was in his 70's told me he remembered the day he drove it into the barn and parked it - as was common in the day, he poured plenty of motor oil all over the car.

After a bit of wrenching at home, replenishing oils and fluids, I got the car started and drove it a short distance. The brakes are shot, so I'll need to work on that next.

As someone accustomed to post war classic cars, I must say these pre-war cars are even easier to work on!

I hope you like these photos which were taken just before the car emerged from the barn.

Now this is something different! Bookmarked.

Forgive me for being dumb, but why did some people pour motor oil over the car back then?

damn that one is really nice!

I don't think mine will look like that. I'm stripping the body down, and converting it to a runabout style car. Just two seats and a fuel tank style... something like this:
