So things are coming along nicely with the refurb' and spanking new roof has just been ordered for the chimp. Now heres the thing...Do I fit it myself (it being the actual roof and not the easy targa re-trim) or get a saddler to do it?

Now normally, with such a component vital for roof stability, water resistance, etc where a perfect fit is necessary, there would be no question - off to the saddlers but you see, I live in Germany and quite frankly, they would have as much knowledge of a TVR roof as I do so what to do?

Do any of you guys have a short instruction guide for me on how to go about this...or how my saddlers should go about it? The last thing i want is to f**k the restoration up on the last straight.

Cheer.

Hi there

here is a guide I wrote a few years ago when I did my s series. There will be detail differences on the Chimaera but it's basically the same.

Look for rear roof section removal on the left hand side

WOW!! Just shows what one misses if one only looks in the Chim/Griff sections. Thanks, that info is invaluable.

Only advice I would offer is get the right type of glue!
look for one that a 30min bonding process so you can reposition the material if needed. The stuff I got turned out to be contact adhesive, luckly I got it just about right first time, its bloody hard to reposition the material otherwise.

I'd suggest Evostick Timebond, about £12.50/250ml on fleabay. One other bit of advice courtessy of D&C Trim, when you're ready to stretch the hood over the 'hoop', pour a couple of kettles of boiling water over the rear screen and hood - it makes it far more pliable and, when it cools down, it'll taughten further.
