As stated really, dads just picked me up for a weekend down at the autosport/pistonheads show & the old dodder's gone & put petrol in his Mazda 3.

The winters like to live life in the edge so he's brimmed the rest of the tank with derv & away we go!

Any ideas what might happen???

just keep it topped up for a while, and it will be fine.

Something fitted to modern diesels that costs a lot to fix when it breaks.

The fart filter

A stupid idea to fit a filter in a waste gas stream as its bound to get gummed up with st

I would be surprised if you dont get a warning light on the dashboard light up, good job it was only 8 litres.

It looks like a cat, goes where a cat goes, and you plug your O2 sensors into it (like a cat). I've seen one for an Audi that had 5 probes plugged into it!

No immediate issues, but will knock a good few k miles off the life of the high pressure pump as the initial concentration of petrol going through it will be enough to strip all the lubrication from the inside of it so it's running 'dry'.

Of course in the old days of indirect injection diesels, and even the first VW tdi diesels, a gallon (or couple of gallons) of petrol in the diesel was good for it... Anyway op, if it was going to go, it would have probably gone by now.

Might run a bit hot for a while, but you shouldnt notice any kther difference. That concentratikn shouldnt damage the pump, its not as if it was run for any length if time with petrol-im assuming he realised and filled with diesel from the same pump?

Sorry for the typos, using a phone

Car never ran with the "just" petrol in-he twigged after putting the 8 litres in, stopped, paid then filled up the rest of the tank with derv so hopefully won't be an issue.

Started at Carlisle, we're now at Lancaster & we're stopping at Blackpool as I'm flying a stunt plane at lunchtime, so the plan is to brim the tank there before heading on to birmingham.

No warning lights yet smile

Worry not. 99% chance of absolutely nothing happening. We had the odd fleet driver from time to time, make the same mistake. Just keep the car topped up with diesel for a while as a precaution.

If you ever did it again keep some two stroke oil in your boot and add that which would help...
