If there isn't any major damage and you're at a point where wire wool has dulled the finish, then you need to go on to metal polishing next.

I used a cheap Ebay polishing kit. Fits in a drill, had 3 different bonnets and 3 different grades of abrasive, and just stepped down the grades, until the shine comes back. I did my LM's with this method and they came up great.

First thing that came to mind was Anusol but that's not used for polishing. wink Get Some Autosol, that's quite a good metal polish

I've used Brasso in the past, worth a try on the dull bit as a test.

Autosol will only remove tarnish, You'll need to go with Ug Lee's method above to remove marks. If you look at the 911SC in my profile pics, I used this method to polish those wheels. It wasnt a kit as such, just a polishing mop for a hand drill and a bar of polishing abrasive for aluminium.
Perhaps an unconventional method of polishing, but I trolley jacked the car up at one side and with the other wheels chocked, let it tick over in first gear to rotate the wheel I was polishing, it gave a uniform finish and made the job a lot easier.

Unless you know what you are doing I'd get a professional to do it.
Just so happens my brother-in-law has been asked to work for a new start up polishing wheels ......
He's been doing it elsewhere and the results are stunning, if you want me to out you in touch pm me.
