The airlines had bought their first complement of nine aircraft for around £23 million in 1977, or $46 million US dollars. At today's prices this sum comes to £150 million, or $300 million. The development costs, alone, of Concorde had been around £1.134 billion, funded jointly by the British and French governments, and the cost of the 16 production Concordes was £654 million. Of that, only £278 million was recovered through sales returns.
Need I say more?!

I remember watching a documentary a few years back about the first landing in JFK, and the political pressure groups trying to stop it based on noise, and the ring leader who tried to kick start a political career off the back of it. Superb documentary indeed, with some great footage of it coming in for the first time. Must have been a hell of a sight.

Got on the scariest landing thing on Ch5 earlier this week when an Air France captain tried to put it down at Leeds Bradford for the first time, of course he just said it was preplaned to give the spectators more chance to see Concorde.

I met Brain Trubshaw a few times while doing service work at his house,he was a real gentleman ,great pictures and paintings around the house of the early days of concorde,Mrs Trubshaw still has a concorde weather vane on top the house

I played golf recently with 2 blokes who worked at Heathrow managing the airfield duties. The subject of Concorde came up and they commented that during the last 2 years of it's life they would check the runways after they landed to pick up any bits that had fallen off it during the landing. They said that it was a real problem. I was a bit scepticle as I don't remember this being a subject for the crash investigation.
Concorde was a wonderful chapter in aviation though, I hope that I live long enough to see a replacement, or something like HOTOL. We can but dream.
