XBox Live connection - problems?

Anyone had any connection problems recently?

I can't sign in for some reason. When I attempt to log in, a message pops up saying go to www.xboxlive/servicealerts, where they say;

XBOX LIVE Service

Users may experience difficulties with the following services:
•Users will have issues using the contact features on support.xbox.com
We are aware of the problem and are working to resolve the issue. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your patience

My Live subscription is due to finish at the end of this month. How does the system usually let you know that your subscription has expired? Does it tell you, or just not let you log in?

I had issues connecting a few days ago, console test indicated fault as being able to connect to internet but not Xbox Live, status pages all indicated fine, resolved by opening some ports on my router;

My router and 360 had been working without these for years so unsure what had changed.

Even if subscription expires you'll be able to logon to Live as a 'silver' user rather than 'gold'.

Yep it's down for me also. After the disaster of the Xbox one and now this, I'm glad I'm changing from Xbox to Playstation.
