PC Games - Special edition prices, really ?
Discussion
I've just been searching though a few sites to see what's coming up and looking for release dates etc and I came across quite a few "Special Editions" of games such as Dues Ex, Bioshock, Max Payne, Skyrim etc. These things are going for £80 - £100 !!! All you seem to get is some crappy plastic, made in China figure and a bigger cardboard box to keep your DVD in, and maybe a map or poster.
Do people really spend £80+ on the same game that would normally be about £30 just because of a few cheap bits of plastic and cardboard ?

I bought the Gears of War 2 special edition as it came with some extras (maps and a gold gun IIRC), and the Fallout 3 lunchbox as I thought it was pretty nice and was only slightly more than the regular version.
The Skyrim one is huge - the box is about 3 times bigger than an Xbox 360 box.

They often also have 'bonus items' like extra weapons or 'free' cars, which I don't really get as it seems like cheating yourself....I'd rather make my way through a game without a leg-up -> more challenging -> more longevity.
quite often these extra's arent given to you at the start of a gamelike the bf3 extra's you still have to play the online ranks and then it becomes available to u.
bonus items arent usually for offline game play generally

I don't play many games, so might be wrong but I think the special cars were available for GT5 on day 1 that would take a long time to 'earn' in the game, which is kind of stupid given the whole 'start from nothing and work your way up' progression. Also I got some extra items in Deus Ex HR, some at the start and some were only available later.like the bf3 extra's you still have to play the online ranks and then it becomes available to u.

So yeah it makes more sense to have them unlockable later in the game like BF3.
