Magnaflow exhausts.

I am a pretty handy sort of chap and I am re-building the V8 Manta, I need to make a full exhaust system and I would like to do a nice shiny stainless system, Manifolds are going to be handled by a pro, they are a bit much for me but I want to put the rest of the pipes and mufflers in place before the manifold guys (whom ever they might be) get the car.

I have been watching lots of TV recently thanks to a generous bout of man flu and then almost cutting my finger off with a 9 inch angle grinder with a 1.5mm cutting disk in it, got 1/3 of the way through the middle finger through the tendon and down to the bone, its healing up now and I might get a bit of use out of it if it all goes well.

Anyway, while watching "Overhaulin" or something similar possibly the one where a bloke called Barry White builds muscle cars to sell, I noticed they seem to get a company called Magnaflow to come and do a full system for them, said systems seem good, nice noise and shiny good grade stainless.

I googled Magnaflow and have come up with a few UK suppliers but I want to know if anyone on here has experience of the products and are they any good ? Is it the sort of thing the Uk gets as a licenced product so quality is not as it would be in the US ?

Havent Googled but do you mean Powerflow or is it def Magnaflow?

Yes i managed to do a similar job on my thumb last year (5" disk 1mm), luckily didnt hit the tendon, but cut the nerve so it bends but cant feel!!

anyhoo...

are you looking for a built system, or a bag of bits to weld?

Is that the best way of doing it? I'd have thought that it would be better to let the manifold guys have as much space as they need, and then work from there.

I believe it's Magnaflow, the show is a US show and they're popular over there...

Definitely Magnaflow. We have a powerflow near us and I am not taking the car there.

Bag of bends and flanges, just what any boy needs in his life.

Magnaflow mufflers have a great burble to them, and i would also suggest borla or flowmaster as alternatives

They all have a great (if slightly pricey) reputation in the usa.

hehe!! well good luck.. they are supprisingly expensive....

Tons of room under the car, I intend to build the back 2/3s and leave the end flanged and ready to accept the manifolds and front join pipe with X over in it. If I get an entire sytem fitted it up round the £2500 mark, if i just get manifolds its about £1200 and I can do the rest for much less than the difference.

Never tried it, I will practise on offcuts first though. I can gas weld so expect it similar.

If you're running an LS in your Manta, I'd recommend custom made 1 7/8" headers, mated to a 3" exhaust with X-pipe for best gas flow and scavenging.

Tragically not an LS, its a Rover V8, it was in the car when I got it and it is pretty much the only V8 i could get in there anyway without chopping the chassis about, bonus points are that it is light.

I want to put a bigger Rover V8 in at some point so any work I do now must be future proof.

I was thinking 1 5/8 primaries and then 2 1/4 pipes after the collectors, then a nice smooth transition X over and then out to twin pipes right to the back.

That set up should be fine for the Rover V8 then, maybe a 2.5" system even? Are you going long tube headers, or shortys?

Well pretty much as long as I can fit in there, the space is a bit tight so that dictates the lengths and shape.

It's never going to be a blistering track car, its not made for that, it's made for V8 rumbling about the place and enjoying the car opel should have built.

I do vaguely remember the name Magnaflow but I can higly recommend Pipwerx exhausts. They make custom systems for both cars and bikes and have made the full system from headers to back can for my race car.

Pics available on request as they did a top job. Located in the NW so that's the only problem I can see.

I came across them a while ago but I am in the darkest reaches of Cornwall so distance is a real problem there, especially since the car will need trailering there and back.
