New most hated job - Steering rack removal

I'm not going to say how long it took me, it's just plain embarrassing. But every single step, every bolt, every hose, took several times longer to remove than it should have done. I just hope Weston Power Steering are up to the job because there's a lot of corrosion, much like the rest of the car...

Since I've now had to drain down the cooling system at least half a dozen times, I'm seriously thinking about having drain plugs fitted to the coolant pipes to make life easier and less messy.

:Dlol i think fitting wing nuts on every bolt is a good idea.......every job i have tackled so far seems to take an age.Good luck sir

i would love to do it every day.......but i would never make any money.....bit like my day time job

Problem is doing this every day when you get home or at weekends you don't want to play with the TVR

I'd prefer to do this as a hobby, but I guess I was born to play with spanners

Yea, but I bet you get paid, and have lifts, warm workshops, every Snap-on tool you might need, and helpers whenever necessary. We have a jack, a couple of axle stands, cheap Chinese tools, neighbours we have to 'manage', and long suffering girlfriends if we need assistance, and perhaps a Cerb buddy if we plan well in advance and are very lucky.

True, I wouldn't say warm workshop

But yeah one 2 poster ramp one 4 poster, laser 4 wheel alignment and 6 large spare bays to myself, yup every snap on tool I need, air lines, jacks and choice of 7 panel beaters to help

But I can't work on my own car there!!!

So im stuck on the drive way doing my bits and bobs with you guys

Good old steering rack. 4 bolts you need a 2 metre long arm and a very funny shaped spanner to undo.

Then you need to be able to bend it half to get it out the engine bay.

I didn't enjoy the job either.

And you have to remove the tie rods, and they're seized, and there's no way to counter hold, and the flats are in the wrong place, and the suspension is in the way, and who has a 32mm spanner anyway?

Im tending to grind my spanners to suit this car,made one sunday for the diff filler,think its about 28-29 mm
