We're taking Dad out to Muscat with us in February. He is in good health, no scares, cancers, recent tests or anything. Any recommendations on a good company to cover him for the trip? (he's staying for 1 week).

Prices online seem to vary from £30 to £80, but it is not always clear if the extra cost = better cover. I don't want to skimp on him if something does happen IYKWIM.

I'm heading over to Saga's site right now btw...

Thanks.

Can't advise but a word of warning for the future, once he gets to 80 it is a real pain to get insurance, my Mum was getting quotes of £200+ for a two week cover. Most standard cover only goes to 80 years old.

If all else fails, try SAGA. We found that over the age of 80, most "normal" insurers (including the travel agent who were more than willing to sell the flights!) don't offer coverage, but SAGA did. Never had a problem with them, but didn't ever had to claim, so I can't comment on what they're like if something goes wrong. The customer service when buying the policy was great - they were quite happy for some one else to take the policy out on my gran's behalf etc, and you actually spoke to some one who knew what they were doing rather than just a call centre "monkey" who was just there to take the details down.

My Dads in his 70's and generally healthy.

We got good cover from American Express (not the card). Although he didn't have to claim.
