Rear tyre recommendation for 996. Halfords say £290 each
Discussion
Hi,
(Another question...)
My 2 rear tyres (different makes!) are on the limit. They're 265 35 18.
The only place I can get rubber fitted tomorrow is Halfords and the manager seemingly will only fit N tyres.
The previous owner says I should get two rears for £300.
Any recommendations - perhaps between the 2 figures?
I never go above 100 mph
90% of drving is on motorways
c. 3,500 miles a month (really)

From £185 each on the first place I looked:

Other to try would be Camskill, Tyremen, eTyres, Mytyres and so on.

Smashing thanks. I'd need to pay for fitting then of course and I need new boots tomorrow.http://www.tyretraders.com/tyresearchresults.aspx?...

Basically, is there anything wrong with a set of Avon ZZ3s for £165 each fully fitted?

Yes, they're completely rubbish. I'd rather have virtually anything other than Avons. Everytime I've driven a Porsche with Avons spiritedly round roads that I know well I get squealy noises all the time (think American TV) - that doesn't even happen with budget brand tyres. For example, I got some Hankook Ventus K103's (I think) for a 996 in 285 30 18 (which is a direct replacement for what you have) for £53 each from Tyretraders and they were fine (it wasn't a sales car, it was my then girlfriend's car that we kept for a year) and I'd choose them over Avons everytime (regardless of price).

I cannot find cheaper anywhere. You will need to get them fitted but still very cheap.

Why on earth have you bought a 996 simply to sit on a motorway for 3000 miles each month? Sorry I just do NOT understand.
'Never go above 100mph'? Really? Perhaps you need a Merc Diesel?

Good on you OP, for not opting for the obvious choice

FK452s are great, and more so when you consider what they cost.
I'm using them now, and they're quieter and grippier than the Pirelli P Zeros they replaced, and I suspect they'll last just as long, too.
And that's with more power and weight than a 996 going through them.
I've just put Falkens FKs on my 996, perfect (and seem better than the N4s that came off!)I'm using them now, and they're quieter and grippier than the Pirelli P Zeros they replaced, and I suspect they'll last just as long, too.
