a bit of photoshop advice please

basically i want to put some pics in black and white with a colour thrown in .. ie a pic of the family in b&w with a red flower in the background or something similar... I got quite average at cs3 when I had a pc but now have a macbook.
is there any free software to enable me to do this or do I get a mate to 'sort' me a copy of photoshop... ps would a macbook pro handle it ?

The GIMP (Gnu Image Manipulation Program) can do most things that Photoshop can and is completely free.

You could try these online editors:

fotoflexer
pixlr

Not tried the effect you want using these but they do quite a lot of effects so may be worth a try.

Should do. I upped mine to 8Gb memory and it runs Lightroom and Photoshop CS5 simultaneously with no problems.

My Macbook Pro with 4Gb will run CS4, Capture One Pro and Media Pro simultaneously without an issue.
