Structure of Car Companies - Dissertation help!

I'm doing a dissertation on strategy for car makers and I'm looking for reliable (credible sources) and fairly recent information on the organisation of car companies - i.e. what they actually do. For example, almost all car manufacturers are also involved in their distribution, many have financing operations, some are into making engines for boats/industrial machines etc.
I'm looking for this information for the big car manufacturers and can't find it. Can anyone share some relevant links?
There should be TONS of information about this out there but it's seeming difficult to come by at the moment. I have access to scholarly article databases (so the links on google where you have to pay $X are fine for me as I can access the document) so that's no problem.
All help greatly appreciated. I might even let you have a sneak peak at the final version!
