Is it sacralege to change the seats?

As i'll soon be having the interior retrimmed i started thinking about changing the seats for a couple of reasons.

They are seriously heavy
Not that great support at all
The side bolsters are a pretty bad design, mine are snapped and require welding (mind you they snapped because i tried to pull them in to give more support, so maybe my fault there).

I have had fixed back buckets before and find them awesome, i suffer from quite a bad lower back frequently and fixed back buckets really help, they also really hold you in place ad just make you feel at one with the car.


However all that said and done is it a bad thing taking out the beautiful tuscan seats and replacing them with something which usually finds place in a rally car (or saxo) .

I'm also not sure if they would fit due to the sort of ear bits on the sides iykwim.

Anyone swapped over? I could always keep the original seats to one side to be retrimmed when i one day sell her.

I really like the look of them, sure they would enhance the look of the Tuscan!

I have replaced my Tuscan seats, in my erm Cerbera, for Cobra seats that they adapt to fit TVR's.
The original seats are not the most comfortable, very springy back, weigh tons, and are cr@p on track, look nice though!
With the increased track mileage i am doing it seemed common sense.

T350 seats don't offer much support.

I think they are the Sparcos that were going to be standard fit, mentioned above.

Yes those are the Sparcos but do be warned the bases sit higher than the Tuscan ones, all right for short arses like me but someone taller may well struggle with head room.
Much better support than the originals, no need to try and brace yourself in the car. Had them put in the Tuscan MKII and moved them to the Sag, a good upgrade if you can locate some.

I think those sparco seats in the sag would be almost impossible to get hold of. I would also be unhappy raising the driving position, i'd lower it an inch or so if i could. That said they do look awesome and i love the colour there.

Why are they hard to get hold of? Is it the seat runners that make the seat higher or is it the seat base, therefore making it impossible to lower?

I just assumed or have maybe even heard that they aren't available anymore. Pretty sure someone contacted sparco iirc.

I don't have my car here at the moment but wondered if anyone would be able to measure the area where the 'shoulder' parts of the seats are.

The seat is 580mm across the shoulder

i have a tuscan seat here and it measured 380 mm in approx the same area. Is there going to be 100mm extra space available each side? Obviously drivers the window side will be the problem.

Could see the cost mounting though as initially they are advertised around £500 each plus i'd need them retrimmed to match the rest, although the guy in this thread seemed to buy them trimmed direct from cobra which may be reasonable (because i wouldnt have to buy a pair of trimmed seats then rip it off and have them re trimmed which is what i'd have to do if i bought a pair from demon tweeks etc)

Why don't you give D&C Trim a call back at home base. They refurbished my seats very nicely and they hug better - but they had a few special orders in there and seeing as they probably understand the seats better than most i'm sure they can advise .... cos they are very nice chaps :-)

I actually had these seats in an e36 m3 a few years ago and when i sold it the two blokes who turned up could barely get in them One was a rugby player and was a good 6ft 4 and had to have been 18st, he was huge.

I'm ok at 5ft 9 and 12 stone but was still slightly awkward.

I suppose when i have mine retrimmed i could just have the side bolsters pushed in a bit more which i'm guessing what d+c did and what i tried doing when i snapped one of the welds

Have you tried the foam removal with a carving knife trick? You can remove material from rear of seat that allos you to sit in the seat, instead of 'on' the seat. Help make best use of side bolsters. I did a write up somewhere.
