As part of my 12k i am doing all the oils. I have had a good search on here tonight but nothing really jumps out as a definitive answer for....
For a 99 4.2 ajp
Engine oil
Gear Box Oil
Diff oil for non Hydra track
Brake Fluid- Light track day use.
I ran Fuchs 5w-40 last year as advised from Opie oils but after searching they have told other people different oils as well??? so pretty confused. I have read that fully synthetic can Glaze the bore up on a AJP so getting a bit worried now what to use.
Any advice and getting a majority on this would be good
Cheers Scotty

I've run the Fuchs/Titan on OO's recommendation) for a couple of years now and know a few others doing the same. Oil use is down (still not as good as some, I think my car is just one of the thirsty ones) and pressure is up over the Shell Helix (thinner) oil I used before. Happy with it.

Silkolene Pro-S 10-50 happy with it, although really only time will tell.
That is the Titan/Fuchs isnt it Steve? OO changed the name last year. And yes mine is the 10/50 not the 5/40 (doh!)Mobil one 0w40, as recommended by TVR - well that's what it says in my hand book!
Changed every year which is between 1500-2000 miles per year for last seven years. Don't burn any oil (well at that mileage I wouldn't notice it anyway) and stays the original golden colour (ok a bit darker) at oil change time.
I really must try harder to do more miles in her.

The latest API SN oil rating (and the previous SM rating) limited ZDDP to 800ppm for standard oils, i.e. fuel efficient 5W-30 and 0W-30 grades. Oils that are higher than 30 grade do not have specific ZDDP limits.
The common consensus is that 1200ppm is the minimum needed for lazy flat tappet engines, but more is desirable for aggressive profile cams such as those used in the AJP8.
I have chosen to use Penrite HPR15w-60 in my 928 and Mobil1 Extended Life 10w-60 in the Cerb, the Penrite is rated at 1200ppm (IIRC) and the Mobil1 is 1300ppm. The semi synth Penrite is about half the price of the fully synth Mobil1.
Some manufacturer approved fuel efficient SN oils have significantly lower ZDDP than the 800ppm permitted, in order to improve the life of the cats, since they are often included in the 5/6/7 year warranty.
Some people use diesel oils to circumvent the ZDDP limits in petrol engine oils, however the higher detergent levels are not really suited to high revving petrol engines and can cause foaming. Conversely 'Racing' oils have much lower detergent levels because they are intended to be changed very frequently, they also have the highest ZDDP levels.
