Too Cheap?

im selling my Cerbera after 4 months of ownership. i am selling it because i just dont enjoy it as much as i do my Chim. in another thread there have been a couple of comments about it being too cheap, however, i bought it a good price. i spent some money on it and want to recoup my costs if possible.
i am not looking to make money so i think i set it at a fair price, other than the back boxes and a couple of cosmetics there is nothing wrong with it, that i know of!!
do i have a responsibilty to other sellers and therefore keep the price high, or do i sell it at what i think is a fair price. the way i see it , it gives somebody a working fund the cheaper they buy. mind you i only feel this way about pistonheaders, not about ebay buyers, i dont know why

Sell it for whatever you feel is a fair and realistic price.
It's all very well people pricing TVR's at the top end of the
scale, but it is a bit pointless if the cars don't sell!
Witness the £40K+ Sag's that have been hanging around for months

FWIW I think Cerb's have bottomed out price wise; but they may take
a while to rise again as they are perceived as expensive to run

Yes, its far too cheap. I can't see any reason that you wouldn't get close to 10k for it, and even then I wouldn't expect it to take long to sell at that.

4 months is a bit short for getting used to the Cerb. I took about 9 months before it "clicked".

Allan, maybe you were lucky, i dont want to give it another 5 months hoping and expecting, and then maybe ultimately being disappointed. Did you have another TVR at the time? why did you stick with it for 9 months? i want to keep trying different cars to see what i like and then stick with for a while. i had 7 different cars in 2012 :-) i was like this with my bike, i had about 40 until i settled on the one i have now

On face value that definately looks too cheap IMO. I recently purchased a 4.2 in the same colour with 20k more, and even though it had outriggers done a new clutch and was in exceptionally good condition I payed more and I believe I still had a good price.

Maybe its just my 'man maths' but if I was looking again I probably would want to look at other cars before yours because I would assume there was something wrong with it that you weren't divulging. Surely a tidy 4.2 has got to be around the £10k mark?

Looking at page 1 of the classifieds, 2 down from yours there is a 'project' 4.2 for £8k and at the bottom what looks like a decent one for £11.5k

i hear what you are saying Fubes, but if people know what they are doing, then all they have to do is come and have a look. in the ad i stated that they could send rob ingleby or james agger or soemone to look at it and if they then wanted it i would take that fee off the asking price, i cant be much more fairer than that. as i said i got a good deal and im happy to pass that on.
the two cars you mention , how long have they been for sale? i want to sell mine so i priced it to sell, i wont lose money and it and i can move on to my next car :-)

No idea Lester, my 20 second 'research' was the first tinme in the Cerbie classifieds for about a year. I dont look at prices because a) I have no intention of selling (never say never etc) and b) I dont want to get upset

I wasn't running your car down, in fact the opposite is true, looks nice (for a red one ).

Nick, i didnt think you were being at all negative about my car :-) so no probs there.
i suppose there is a dilemna about pricing cars, i recently sold an 850i bmw 60,000 miles in great nick for £3500. much too cheap but it needed a little bit of work and the insurance was due the next day and soemone had paid me a nice deposit for it a long time previous but didnt complete. but it had been for sale for 3 months! and on the same day i sold my 350z low mileage for £5000, £300 below what i paid. the point is i sold them both and had the cash then to buy my cerbera, whereas it would have passed me by and i might have ended up paying a lot more for a car i didnt really get on with that i might not be able to sell quickly.
or i could hold out for a great price on the cerbera but maybe not sell it?
this way hopefully i sell the car, get a new car, and the new cerbera owner gets a small slush fund, and we are all winners :-)

Reason I said cheap was that I have a similar car. Now I've no intention of ever selling but I was hoping being known as a good one with decent bits would keep it around what I paid for it.

Can't see the pics properly at work, but from what it looks like the pictures were taken in the cold with condensation all over the car? Just doesn't do justice to the Rosso Pearl paint!

So all in all the advert gets over looked as its priced with the 'project' cars as well as pics that don't do it justice imo

Maybe take some pics in the sunlight after a good polish and raise the price a couple k

exactly what happened, i hadnt planned to sell, came home from a drive out, the " scary moment" persuaded me to sell the next day, and took the pics then and there.
which leads to my other selling issue, i get up every day at 3:30 am to go to work and dont get back until 17:00 when its dark. i work one weekend in 4 and its this weekend coming. i have so little time and imm always tired. i have 3 people coming to see the car tonight and i have to get home, wash, polish, and hoover it before they come aaaargh. i havent the time and inclination to do this over a few months :-(

im ashamed to admit it wasnt much at all!!
i was persuaded by the girlfriend to take her to the dog shelter centre near huntingdon , i said only on condition we go in the cerbera which she agreed to. it was a nice morning, but i had forgotten to fill up on m11, so had to take it easy until next fuel, and after getting fuel we were on the average speed cams and nearly there, boy my right foot was twitching.
im not a dog lover, sorry, and all i could think of was giving it some welly when we came out, it was bit drier now so i thought conditions are perfect. so as we came onto the slip road with another car alongside i put my foot down and the back end nearly went straight into the car alongside me, she screamed and i went red, partly from my heart skipping a beat, and partly about being embarrassed about being caught out. and then i thought i should only drive that car on my own and with no distractions, but i dont want to have the car with those restrictions

i also have a very healthy Chimaera 500
just sold a 350z
just sold a bmw 850i ( which i had for 6 years and used to turn the traction control off for fun)
and a smart car :-)
other than a couple of work cars i have more or less always driven rear wheel drive, so i am used to being a bit careful.

If you've only owned it from October to January then I don't think you've seen its full potential - pity. But fair enough and each to their own. The driving style of cerb and chim are very different, it's not surprising that some might strongly prefer one over the other. And yes it might be too cheap - buyer psychology plays a part, especially with "risky" purchases. There is an assumption that one gets what one pays for. Try adding 5k and stating that you think it's one of the best examples you've seen
