Diesel Fuel additives ?
Discussion
Can anyone give any opinions on fuel additives for new turbo diesel engines.
Do they make any difference to new cars ? e.g. redex or similar stuff. Good or bad ? The handbook says do not use them.
My engine is the 150bhp 2.0d
What about a certain well known fuel suppliers brand of diesel plus fuel... any good? (hint they have a green logo)
It's only done 700 miles but its already starting to be a torquey monster
Regards,
Chris.

My experience would suggest that they are useful only for cleaning injectors if you have a problem. The engine is designed to run on standard pump diesel so that is what it will be happiest on. The holes in the injectors on modern diesels are very small so any inpurities can cause problems and the pumps run extremely high pressures so they are best left to their own devices.
Incidentaly does your fuel computer give you hugely optimistic figures? Mine (also a 320d) consistently suggests I'm getting 57+ mpg when I work it out over the last three tanks I reckon it's nearer 47. Can't think why it's that inaccurate....
