Replacement Relay
Discussion
Hi peeps..Replaced 2 plug connections..one to the thermotime and the other to the AAD..Being a lazy t
t i didnt disconnect the battery and when i tried to start the car one of the relays was making an intermittent wurring noise..I found a spare in the glove box which was lucky but now i would like to get some spares just in case..Can anyone advise on what are the correct ones to get please..Mine are metal with 28RA stamped on the underside..The wiring diagram is..

Mine has 5 blade..Cheers..Ziga

At the risk of being too simplistic....
I believe all the 'sugar cube' type relays have the same layout, and there are two (main) types -
1. a 4 blade relay. This is a standard on/off relay, 2 blades for coil, 2 for contacts.
many makes have each blade numbered underneath (er...30, 85, 86 87 ?? something like that)
2. a 5 blade relay. This is a 'changover' switch relay, where one contact connects alternatively to toher two for the coil being on & off. ( 2 contacts coil, 3 contacts changeover switch.... 30,85, 86 86a 87 ??)
I think the coil blades are 30 and 85 ??
but I don't know for sure if some relays had a different base layout.
Then there are a lot of tall ones, which can be anything from indicator flashers, to intermittent wipe, to fuel pump timeout.....sometimes they have large and small blades, sometimes not.
I got quite a few spares from (UK) scrappers on European cars - they are all the same layout, as far as I could tell anyway. Hope this helps !!

There's a variation on the 5-blade type: it has two terminals labelled 87a. Usually used to supply two circuits at the same time that are normally needed to be separate - as an example you could feed both left and right indicators together. One or sometimes both of the relays in the V8 fuel injection system is of this type, which is why you need to be careful if you start swapping them around.
