Drove a new sprinter today.
Discussion
519CDI with the 3.0 v6 and an automatic box.
Bloody. Beautiful.
Brilliant noise under accleration, didn't roll that much, and the autobox managed the power perfectly, both at high and low revs.
Drove almost as good as any car i've driven in a long long time.
Felt a lot better than the old sprinter (although i maintain the old one was more noisy which is better
) and felt very well built considering it is 'just a van'.

So, if they still badge them up that way that 519cdi would have 190bhp and be capable of carrying 5 ton. Bet its a lot of fun empty with RWD and no weight over the rear axle

Your close, but not quite there, So, if they still badge them up that way that 519cdi would have 190bhp and be capable of carrying 5 ton. Bet its a lot of fun empty with RWD and no weight over the rear axle

The first number denotes their gross weight, usually, however some of the larger ones can be "down rated" to 3500kgs gross weight so as they can be driven on a post 1997 Car licence
So for example a
2... Is usually 2800kgs Gross
3... Is usually 3500kgs Gross
4... Is usually 4600kgs Gross
Etc etc
The last two numbers in the badge you are quite correct, denotes the BHP figure
Shame that the 3.0 190bhp Sprinter in question is limited to 56mph now

That does seem a little bit of a waste. The first number denotes their gross weight, usually, however some of the larger ones can be "down rated" to 3500kgs gross weight so as they can be driven on a post 1997 Car licence

Yep, those figures are correct, and the one i was driving is totally unrestricted. The first number denotes their gross weight, usually, however some of the larger ones can be "down rated" to 3500kgs gross weight so as they can be driven on a post 1997 Car licence

Muwahahahaahah.

We had a 319CDI on hire at work ages ago - lovely big beast to drive and it did sound good.
Now got new Movanos as our 'big' vans - much nicer inside than the Merc, decent engines too, but FWD and turning circle of a bus.
The reduced speed limits for light vans are bad enough, but I do find it amusing that the exact same van with a different plate, (sometimes) has to be restricted when they put a '5' instead of a '3' on the back end. The law is an ass!
