Afternoon chaps. I need to top up my oil but understand that ideally I should drain it and change the lot.
How easy is it to do?. Do i have to remove the bottom panel to get to where I need to get to. I'm an oil changing virgin but see no reason to pay a garage to do it for me if its straight forward.
Cheers guys.

Nah, don't bother unless you've got a very highly modded engine or you're doing loads of track days. If it's between services just top it up but don't overfill it!! As long as the level is on the hatched bit of the dipstick then it's OK. BTW it's 1 litre between the min and max so you can work out how much to put in.

I would dissagree.
Somoene always does

Changing the oil every 6 months (between services) is good for the engine.
You'd be suprised the in the difference of the engine sound.
Good for the engine? Yes, undoubtedly as the oil is cleaner and has less crap in it and will keep everything cleaner. Necessary? No, in a normal state of tune the K will be quite happy with a 9000 mile or 12 month change and top ups of lovely fresh Magnatec (cue flaming for not using Mobil-1
) With a VHPD engine like in your 340R
then regular changes are probably a good idea though.cuzza said:

Depends what you do with your car . . . if it's on the track a lot then your magnatec will be being destroyed by the oil temps that occur on track . . . of course if it's sitting in rush hour Q's 99% of the time it'll be fine . . .

Again, completely depends on usage . . . if you do not track it you do not have an oil problem . . . if you do track it and don't have a good oil cooler, then something fully synthetic is a good idea . . .

ferg,
Theres no way in which I would run a VHPD on anything less than RS10/60 (which the engine was developed on) and indeed any other Kseries.
I just can understand your mentality...why not spend a little extra cash twice a year just in case?!
Whats £40 extra when you've shelled out 10k plus for a toy!
They DO run smoother and sound better.
Just do it.

As it happens my car runs on mobil 1 all the time, 2 reasons, 1) it's tracked at least a couple of times a month, and has a reasonably hard lif of track . . . 2) I can get the oil cheap ;-)
It is horses for courses tho . . . the difference in a VHPD w.r.t oil is nothing, unless you track the car . . . the real differenced are many forged parts, crank, rods, pistons, etc . . . and unless you track the car there will be just fine on almost any oil . . .
As for engine noise, I guarantee if you change the oild regularly with cheapo semi-synth it'll be quieter . . .
Anyways . . . I agree decent oil is a small price to pay, but, city commuters are probably wasting their cache ;-)
