Gold badges were an option from the factory.

My 4.3 Pre-Cat (1992) has gold badges, from the records they have never been changed. I have as of today sent them off to Leven (aka Prestige Performance Cars) to be refurbished. I saw a set on a Griff at my local club meet that had been done and they are stunning! PeteFFG
The gold coloured badges were on the performance tuned cars. First TVR designated these models as HC but then everyone claimed to have an HC so they painted the rocker covers purple, this was easy to copy so they quietly started fitting gold badges to those Griffs and Chimaeras where the customer had specified a 'blueprinted' engine.

I had my tatty badges refurbished (i think they are really swapped) with the popular place for referb'ed badges a few years back. They were a huge improvement on the old, until the entire resin part started to lift off. I now have very limited edition 100% gold badges.
+1 Mine lasted 12 months before resin coating peeled. New owners unable to help. But I decided I quite like the bare shiny ally look, so leaving them like that.Doc Toad said:
....i think my badges have a nice 'patina' - others may say they just look knackered. I'm working on the theory that you should always leave something for the next owner to do, (if I ever sell!)
Its weird how different Chimaera and Griff owners are ! cars so similar but owners miles apart.

So how to know if your car is an "HC"? Seeing as mine certainly has a 500HC badge on the engine, purple rocker covers and the gold badges.Gassing Station | Griffith | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
