Spent some time in Lima, Peru and loved the city.

Large part of this was wild energy on the roads. Catching a bus was such an experience, especially in the evenings, dozens of small battered mini buses racing along the roads in the hot weather, music blaring, stopping at random with minimal due care to fellow motorists with the conductor screaming destinations to passersbys, no lingering allowed as you have seconds to jump aboard before the bus races off. God knows how the vehicles survive so long with such abuse of the gearbox and engine.

In general beeping is the norm to signify you are about to make a crazy lane change, stop suddenly or god knows what else. Seemed to be a case of doing what you want and up to others to avoid you rather than 'defensive driving'.

Should be shocked but actually loved the thrill of it, IAM members would have a nervous breakdown hehe

The same thing in Argentina, really. Seems nobody care about the rules, including the police, and yet.. they are doing okay, at least i haven't seen road rage or any serious accidents.

Initially resisted posting incase was the same in all of south America but after Lima went to Cusco and much calmer, less vehicles on the road though.

When I think of a uk bus driver plodding along, think their counterparts here have a much more fun job. Will be in Argentina next month so will be interesting to compare.

I, on the other hand, hate that sort of mentality and attitude on the road.
And I say that as someone who endured driving in Africa.

Give me driving in the UK any day.

Do you know what the annual Peruvian death toll is on their roads?
