I parked up my car in early December with the intention of running a battery conditioner, or at least starting the car from time to time. For various reasons, none of the above happened and I now have one very flat battery.

I know how to get into the car, and plan to get it going this Sunday but I hear that a flat battery can cause issues with immobilisers? So with that in mind, can I simply jump start it or do I need to do anything in particular before starting to ensure the immobiliser works as it should?

I've never let it run flat before, so I can only apologise if there is no need to ask this paperbag

Remember that in running it flat and then rapidly charging it again you can easily distort the plates and kill the battery ... I'm on my third battery in two and a half years - this time I've kept the receipt from Halfords! biggrin

You are unlikely to distort plates with any "home" charger, leaving a battery flat for long periods will knacker it though.

If you jump it to start it then the alternator will try to charge the battery at a hell of a rate...

I'd connect a battery desulphater/conditioner before I did anything. (for a few days)

That'd give you s better chance methinks. (via cigar lighter is easiest)

Letting it go flat the once won't hurt Paul, if it happens a few times it'll kill the battery.

Let it be a lesson and get out and use it! biggrin

An alternator that isn't faulty won't charge more than the regulator allows it to, that is set to less than will damage a battery.

The garage boosters are how you buckle plates.

Hi Garlick, do you have the standard Meta alarm, with key fob for opening and immobiliser stick for the er immobiliser?

I've been using a battery cut of switch under the bonnet while the Chim has been laid up in the rubbish weather and I've had an issue with it starting.

Once I re-connect the battery everything works fine but sometimes the indicators flash and I have to re-set using the fob. Then I turn the key, get the fuel pump then nothing when I got to turn her over?

Did I hear that once the power is disconnected you need to reset the alarm by holding the key fob down THEN re-connecting the power?

Any suggestions?

Good luck with starting yours Garlick!
