991 Electric Folding Mirrors -- Auto fold when parked?

Hello PistonHeads,

First post from this Yank. Have been following your threads with great interest for some time and am thankful for all the great info. (And, for some reason, some PistonHeads threads show up as "news" in my daily Google Porsche alerts, which is weird but cool).

I am ordering a 991 and options are about to freeze. Currently have the box checked for the electric folding wing mirrors as they would be handy in our rather narrow driveway.

That is, that it is possible to park and also leave them out, w/o the car automatically retracting them to submissive dog ear stance? Want to be able to look at it and ooh and ahhh when parked, too, is the idea.

Since only press cars are in the U.S. so far, I have not been able to confirm this fully with the dealer and would be very appreciative if anyone that has one already could confirm how the electric mirrors behave?

I did have a chance to see the 991s in the flesh at Porsche Center Amsterdam last week -- very exciting -- but am kicking myself as I forgot to ask the question there, especially since one had the option:

Drove two 991's today and both cars had the electric folding mirror option, they automatically folded when parking the car. There is a button on the door to move them in and out manually but I did not try it after taking the key out to see if it was possible to move them back out. Sorry.

Hi, would imagine you can program this option with porsche tester or instrument cluster.

Thx guys for all the input. Armed with the extra info, my dealer (I think you call them OPCs?) is checking with Zuffenhausen on potential override.

Now only remaIning question is the same as most folks seem to pause on -- to PDCC or not....

Spoke to a friend at opc and he says all the cars they have had through do not fold the mirrors in when locked, so it must be a programmable option.

Thx. Has every car that's been through there had the electric folding mirror option, though? (optional, not standard, on U.S. cars, at least)

I'd be extremely surprised if you cannot program it somehow if its that big a deal, I'd leave it ticked.

Folding mirrors are certainly an option not standard. Both cars I drove had the option, both folded on parking. I can only suggest that the OPC cars that didn't don't have the option. I find it unlikely that they would programme them at OPC not to fold in on parking. Surely they need to demonstrate them to potential customers how they are supposed to work?

Its 99% guaranteed you can programme not to fold in (not from OPC, I mean programme from the instrument cluster yourself)...that is the way Mercedes for example has been for years (and Porsche usually catch up after a few years on these kind of things)...

the 991 I drove had the electric folding mirror option. they did not fold when I locked the car.
