Another Tyre question!
Discussion
ER no, it is also the tyre's ability to handle the other performance stresses. Acceleration, cornering etc. I am sure the insurers will be happy to refuse a payout for sub-standard tyres. Not worth it IMO.
I can't see why the price difference is so great though? Decent tyres are around £150 a corner.

Targarama I can understand where you are coming from but from an insurance point of view so long as tyres are constructed to pass an MOT then with our speed limit of 70mph they can be used on any vehicle. Asked the question of insurance companys when looking for winter tyres for the Sag and at renewal stage and received the same answer from all them, happy to use a lower speed rated tyre during the winter as I am not going to be stressing any of their limits but like you think I would prefer to have recommended ones during the more enjoyable driving months.IMHO obviously.I can't see why the price difference is so great though? R1Rs look like a good summer tyres, but I am concerned about winter use given this Toyo technical note.

True; the stronger construction of the tyre will allow it to resist heat build-up, so in theory it will do other things better too. Given however that TVR's are comparativly light cars however, the stresses they have to endure will still be less than most cars. I seriously think its not worth getting hung up over (all IMHO).I can't see why the price difference is so great though? Decent tyres are around £150 a corner.
