2000 TVR Tuscan

My TVR Tuscan a "2000(W) Red Rose". I've had the car for just over 3 years and covered about 24,000 miles. I needed to replace my previous car, a 1993 Chimaera since it was starting to fall apart. Tuscan looks awesome and sounds better.



List of issues since I bought the car -
1) Alarm adjusted since it would go off if parked near a tree
2) Electric window adjustment
3) Power-steering leak

One of my favourite ever cars. Your list of issues reinforces my thoughts about it being a bigger, more serious version of my Mk1 MX5; it'll annoy the st out of you with it's stupid little niggles, but you really can't help but love it.

That's the list of issues since he bought it 3 years ago. My Micra has had more problems than that in the past year!

did you just compare a tuscan to an mx5....

I hoped that by adding the "bigger, more serious" bit that it wouldn't appear as such.

TVRs seem to have a lot of issues when they are not used enough. Mine gets serviced at least once a year by the supplying dealer who has serviced the car from new (except for 2 services). There are lots in the classifieds that have covered less then 2000 miles a year, I think theres are likely to be more troublesome.

My car had a full engine rebuild and new clutch just before I bought it. The previous owner spent thousands on it before he sold it. I few years ago he managed to track me down and offered to buy it back.

At the Kit Car Show in Detling Kent, I meet the first owner. He told me it was his second Tuscan, the first one caught fire soon after he bought it and TVR offered him this one as a replacement. Its a factory Red Rose which has as standard bigger wheels, bigger breaks, sports suspension and a more powerful engine (380BHP rather then 360BHP).

I am so close to moving to one of these next. Had my first drive in a mk1 tuscan a few weeks ago and it almost feels like a "normal" car next to the other TVR's i have driven. The sp6 is just so smooth and easy to live with i bet.

After 8.5 years Tuscan is in need of a second rebuild. Hopefully wont take too long to get it back on the road again.

I love how the alarm would go off for a tree specifically, though I do know how annoying an overly sensitive alarm is. I appear to own a Defender that is very scared of V8s...

Sorry to hear about the rebuild, how many miles has it done in the 8.5 years since the last one? Mine had a full rebuild in 2006 and needed a top-end rebuild last year, but had only done 20k miles in between though - clearly the previous owners hadn't been driving it enough!

I've done 47,000 miles since the last rebuild.

Doesn't seem like that much, surprised it needs another rebuild already - was it a sudden failure or just gradual loss of compression? Looking on the bright side, this could be the perfect excuse to go for a Powers 4.5 upgrade, or a 4.3 from Str8six...

It was gradual over a year, started with poor idling when cold then progressed to not idling at all. Been a year since the rebuild and all good engine wise. Just got it back from a re-paint in the original crystal topaz. With the rebuilt engine and gear box, new springs and dampers and re-paint, it's better when I bought it 10 years ago.
