4.6 rover v8, gems into tvr
Discussion
As i need an ecu any way i was browsing fleabay the other day and noticed an number of 4.6 motors complete with loom and ecu, for about the price of an aftermarket ecu.
so thinking of the possibility of going 4.6 drop in some top hat liners, a bottom end refresh, cam and some head work
should result in a fairly powerful motor, going gems should mean it will happillyntake care of any further mods.
obviously the first issue is the flywheel, with the crank sensor pickup.
is there something about the ecu being coded, am i right in thinking mark adams has done some mapping with these, what does that do as i thought the gems took. care of most things.
any gotchas?
cheers

The immobilser side of the ECU is your biggest problem, as this is keyed in some way to the Range Rover it came from, so you cant bolt it straight onto a TVR. Mark Adams can reprogram one for you to overcome this, but it was pretty expensive. I recollect however the price for a rechipped Gems unit had dropped somewhat recently with the advent megasquirt system being a plug and play for around £1k (with coil packs) so you need to ask Mr Adams himself. It has been covered on the TVR forums in some depth if you can get the search tool to work, or try searching on posts from Mark Adams, I think he chipped in at one point to the discussion.
