The lighter in my Chim doesn't work and it would be nice to have a power source for the sat nav and tyre pump should I need it. I have checked all the fuses and they are fine but the lighter is loose and it sounds like a cable may have come off.

Do I need to remove the door panel or can the lighter be removed by feel though the speaker hole? It looks like it is the type that has a screw on metal sleeve that holds it in place.

yes door panel has to come off i did this only last week, look for the post. you remove speaker cover then speaker. inside door is 3 x 10mm nuts on lower edge. once panel off there are 3 plugs mark them before you disconnect as two of mine where the same. the cig socket is just screwed on. a good tip from another pistonheader is to replace nuts with wing nuts. also another tip i lubricated window mech whilst i had panel of.

Thanks for that. I was hoping that I may get away with being able to do it without the faffing about.

It's more likely that the contacts on the door wiring connector have corroded. Once you've got the panel off it's easy to clean them up with a bit of emery cloth and then protect them with a spray of WD40 (or the other electrical stuff I can't remember the name of)

I had problems with my lighter falling down when the satnav was plugged in and the thing that I noticed was that the fiberglass was too thick and the lighter assy was only on by one thread. It cam loose a couple of times. So I measured the thickness and cut the can down to give better thread engagement, the hole in the panel was also to large so the can did not fit evenly around the hole it dug in on one side so I splayed the top of the can to make it fit better. I have never had any problems with it since.
