Cool story bro etc.

I got a nasty not-quite-bad-enough-to go-off-sick cold just after new year. It got worse for about a week, in the muscle achy/woozy kind of way then just kind of tailed off in to generic cold symptoms but never quite went away.

Then I wake up this AM and - bang - back to square one feeling like my muscles weigh a tonne and a splitting headache. Obviously I haven't gone off sick, but I don't intend to achieve much now I'm at work. laugh

A number of others at work have the same never ending cold. One girl (whose chest I would happily rub Vicks in to) has suggested that it's going round and "re-infecting" people which is why it seems to wax and wane, but my understanding of colds is that once you've had one variant, you won't get it again.

Anyone else got/had this?

On which note, what would be the normal maximum duration of a cold - a week? Ten days?

My normal remedy for colds is a bottle of uber-cheap red wine when the symptoms first appear (this really works) but as I got this when colossally hung over after NYE that wasn't an option.

Started with a cold in early November 2011 and apart from a few days here and there it feels like i still haven't got fully rid of it yet.. Hopefully it's not a sign of impending doom.

It must be Good AIDS then, because I don't remember having enough naughty fun to catch it!

Colds tend to last for around 10 days so your most recent infection is unlikely to be related to the first. You may have 'nasal drip' which occurs when excessive mucus is produced in the nose (like when you have a cold) and it accumulates in the throat or back of the nose, causing a perpetual, tickly cough. I've had this myself and it was cured within a couple of days after seeing the Doc. and getting a prescription for Beconase. Felt like a miracle cure!! HTH.

yes but the colds mutate and change into a new strain, propably will mutate from person to person as it has to fight a different immune system.

Could be that your immune system is weak, or being undermined by something else (and thus it's the same cold, which you should have fought off by now). It's not really -that- long for a cold to last, I have friends who are generally unhealthy who've had colds last months (though only to a minor level - blocked noses etc).

What's your general health like? Diet/exercise/sleep etc.

Sounds as if you may have a lingering sinus infection, try beconase or similar then see your doctor. This sort of low level illness can drag you down without you realising how bad it has become. (I am a doctor, I just didn't bother with the exams) HTH

As I said, it's affecting multiple people in the same way.
