Hi Jim thanks for the reply but sorry none of the cars matched mine.
mine is a 1.8 has 7 spoke alloys with mx5 badges, is black leather seats with red piping, black door cards, a wallnut (i think) veneer interior around air vents & clocks, even the car mats have mx5 on them, the v5 states its a mx5 classic as i say not listed

Wasn't the Miata name was only used in North America? Eunos was the Japanese name and so I think all imports will be Eunos

If the VIN number starts with JMZ then it's a UK car not an import (imports start with NA...)

and of course if it's a UK car it will just be an MX5 (ie. no name at all)

This is the best way to check. Forget the V5, they're not consistent - mine is apparently a "Mazda Eunos" whatever one of those is! It may tell you whether it is imported and the date of import.

Anyway, this sounds like it might be right:

Black 1.8 with red stitching?

It's a UK spec MX-5 1.8i Classic. 2nd from last special edition Mk1 in UK (last being 1998 1.8i Berkeley).
Like the Berkeley it's based on the base spec Mk1 1.8 so would have had manual windows & mirrors, no ABS or LSD but will have leather seats, chrome cabin brace bar and horrible walnut effect trim that's probably gone off by now.

Miata is US, Eunos Roadster Japan and MX-5 is Europe. All the same car just different names in different markets.

MX-5 IS the name just like Miata is the name in US. In Japan it's name is Roadster. It was marketed by Eunos who sold a range of Mazda cars under the Eunos badge (think of it as a Mazda version of Lexus).

Have a look on the OC MX5 Editions page.
The formatting goes a but wky a little way down but you can find it easy if you search for "October 97".

I kind of meant that you can't say it like a word, it's just an alphanumeric notation, rather like a 'VX220' versus 'Elise' ;-)

thanks for the information now i feel enlightened & yes all the trim has peeled & actually looks better without it. I bought this car a while back & used until it failed the mot ayear ago since then its been moth balled while i decided what to do with it, i thought maybe a kit car project but now im thinking of returning it back to its former glory, but do they retain a good price if im going to spend around £700-£800+ on it is it worth it in your view.

It'll be the Rod Grainger MX-5 bible - there are 1.6 and 1.8 versions, 1.8 version is red IIRC. Well worth getting.
