Does the Disco4 MY12 come with the new circular gear selector as standard on all models, or is it an optional extra? There isnt clear info on the website.

There are no pricing options for the new selector, but these pics from their website show both the old/traditional "stick" selector and the new circular selector as present on the MY12.

AFAIK - All new Disco 4s come with the rotary gear selector and the new 8spd auto.

Standard on 12MY. Not keen on the looks but works well enough.

I think the confusion is that it's not standard on some models of MY12 but that those are not offered to the UK market. The website still shows pictures from all though.

The new Disco brochure shows only rotary gear selector, and that is the only one available in this country, I have heard however that the Aussie one still has the gearlever and the old 245bhp engine.

The new 2012 model was introduced Oct 2011 so on a 61 plate, although I have seen 11 plate cars with the 255bhp engine and gearshift lever ? confused

Just on my way to dealer now to finalise and sign for 2012 HSE ! wink

The new gear lever is rubbish, my wife would prefer to have her old car (MY2011) back again. It is very easy to mis-select when parking and slows you down when you jump in the car and want to drive away quickly. Added to this, the new touchscreen (with graphics and mapping from the ark) is extremely slow to respond.

I agree with Orbtar, it's a bit fiddly and I miss having somewhere to rest my hand. It's standard on all MY12's, as is the 'glacial' touchscreen.

The selector with the optional leather on top in the Discovery looks better than the Range Rover's. Apart from it not feeling very positive when you select a gear, you also lose the nice chunky Terrain Response knob.

Have you thought about using the steering wheel instead? wink

At least if you buy a petrol Range Rover you still get a proper gear lever (for now!) I'm sure they'll change that soon, it must be a lot cheaper to produce a rotary controller than a gear stick.

But you miss out on two gears.

No room on there, it's taken up with knees and ears.
