This would be a fifth car, polished, cared for, kept standard, out on sunny days for cruises only.

Whilst I'm car mad and have a few I know nowt about Porsches so hoped some of you with more experience of them would offer some advice.

I've been narrowing down my choice for a 4 seat convertible as a "classic" to add to my small collection and the 993/964 is top of my list now but that is purely based on looks at this stage.

Thanks

Considering the mileage and the fact it's manual it's not bad I'd say.
Wont cost u much in depreciation that's for sure

Do you actually need four seats ? Because unless its just littl'uns that you are taking around, that won't satisfy the demand, its more a 3 seater with an adult sat virtually sideways ....

That's a more accurate description of my needs. My sons (11 & 14) never want to go for a run for runs sake in my e92 M3 or Works Mini. They love going out in the Indy but it's a strict 2 seater so who stays behind?

I'm after something we three can just hop in and go for a cruise in but that's got some classic status and I can (I hate this word) cherish. I've always liked the 993/964 shape. I considered a proper old classic and even a Vw karmann ghia (there's a lovely black one in the classifieds) but a quick count up of the cars I've bookmarked shows I'm overwhelmingly drawn to these Porsches. Strangely, the 996 does nothing for me.

That looks like a fairly decent buy IF IT CHECKS OUT TO BE IN GOOD CONDITION. These are old cars and the difference between poor and good is a lot of money.

Get a professional inspection and do as much research as you can.

If its all good, or just has reasonable wear and tear isses, go for it.

Thanks. So I'm not being unreasonable to think I can get a nice 993/964 cab for this kind of money?

I've bookmarked a few. Main issue is they are all down south and I'm in York. A long tour of cars is ahead I think.

Sounds ideal, and as has been said, if it checks out, it looks lovely ....

Any [early] 964 should only be bought with the results of a cylinder leak down test.

If it passes that, get it bought, if it doesn't you'll need another £4 - £6k for a top end rebuild.

Thanks, this is exactly the kind of advice I need. Much appreciated.

It's worth pointing out that 964 cabs (and 993 ones for that matter) only have lap belts in the back - only the targas have full 3-point belts...

Hmm, that's good to know. Thanks. Is there a retro fitting kit for full 3 points? I would feel more comfortable with my youngest in there if so. Once saw an accident where a mum in the back died wearing a lap belt only on the A65. Not nice.
