Tinting windows

Front windscreen - 25% tint (must allow 75% of light through)
Front side windows - 30% tint (must allow 70% of light through)
All other windows - No restrictions
This: but note that the factory glass is set at this level already, so you can legally put nothing but clear film on the front side windows. Front side windows - 30% tint (must allow 70% of light through)
All other windows - No restrictions

Thanks for this info y2 as I always wondered about the tints in mine (previous owner thing)http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/OwningAVehicl...
My insurance company are happy with them but the police could always have a different opinion.
I had all windows tinted on my Defender (tints arranged by LR when new, 5 years ago) and then I got stopped and told to remove them by a copper that tried to wind me up but failed.
My mate who is a traffic cop told me to get the windows redone as the chances of getting stopped is rare.
But after driving without them, I think its right in getting them removed, as I think it does reduce your sight a wee bit, and in my opinion that wee bit might be to much.

A few years ago I had an Impreza STi. The previous owner tarted it up "tastefully" (IMO at the time) including tints at the front. I would often get stopped by the police. They would drive pass, double back and stop me for a roadside check. I didn't mind this because it meant I never needed to pay the annual subscription for the tracker activation. The local bobby was always on the look at for my car. I would wind down both front windows before they walked to my car and everything checks out with them.
I thought they did their job well. They were diligent to feel that something was not right and would stop me and they were always very courteous and polite. Although once a copper did feel a bit of a plonker. He stopped me when he did a licence plate check to find that I had no MOT. He was a bit embarrassed when I explained to him that the car was less than three years old.

The copper I was on about was tring his best to wind me up until I ended up telling that he sounds stupid and I am not biting with you, he then changed his tune and then started asking me about my car (in a good way)
He said at the end, You have two opions ...
1. take the tints of as soon as you get to your destination.
2. we will impound your car till its done.
I looked at him and said Mmm I think I will take opion one.

Be careful if you decide to argue the toss after they have been checked with a meter & found to be too dark.
You may just find yourself being issued with an immediate PG9 prohibition notice. Which means the vehicle cannot be driven from where it is. Your choice is then either remove it there & then or have the vehicle recovered.

There was an episode of Motorway Road Wars Camera Action where they showed this happening. BiB waited whilst the driver removed the tint film.I would get just the rear sides and rear screen done. This is the "factory" look and is not subject to the legal levels. I had smoke grade on mine which means you can still just about see into the car but does cool the inside down and doesn't look gangster.

Would you declare slick racing tyres to an insurance company?

personally i really dislike the side profile "van" look with partial tinting, it messes up the side of the car, the dark window makes the rear of the car look compressedhttp://www.tintyourglass.co.uk/listman/exec/search...

dislike it with a passion
